The first EAGE Geo-Quiz was held in 2007 in London and nowadays it is one of the most popular features in the EAGE student programmes. The EAGE Geo-Quiz is a source of enjoyment and interactive way to test your knowledge and skills by competing with and against fellow students from all over the world. Due to its proven success at EAGE’s Annual Meetings, the Regional Geo‐Quiz was introduced. The Regional Geo‐Quiz can be organized during a geoscientific event that includes a significant amount of student delegates (minimum: 100 (expected) student delegates).

All Geo-Quiz participants should register their team which must consist of 3 students to qualify. The questions are related to geoscience and petroleum engineering will then be presented to the teams in a modern-quiz style, with 30-40 seconds to select the correct answer.

The quiz will show 3 rounds, and the team that makes it to the final round with the highest score is declared the winner and will obtain incredible prizes. In the regional Geo-quiz the prize is 3 travel grants to 80th EAGE Conference & Exhibition 2017 (11-14 June, Copenhagen, Denmark) and in the Global Geoquiz in the Conference the prizes are fantastic electronic devices.

How does it work?

Each year the Geo-Quiz is held in several regions (Africa, Americas, Asia Pacific, Europe, Middle East, Russia/CIS). The winning teams of these regional competitions receive travel grants to attend the EAGE Conference & Exhibition and participate in the global EAGE Geo-Quiz.

EAGE is a truly multidisciplinary association and this is emphasized in the EAGE Geo-Quiz as well. The quiz counts several rounds with questions related to different fields in the geoscience industry. Petroleum geoscience, geology, geophysics, petrophysics and drilling are just a few of the fields that students may have to deal with during the competition. The level of the questions differs and will get more difficult along the way. The best way to compete in this quiz is with a multidisciplinary team of students.

Every team consist of 3 students
Every team will receive one remote control
Once a team has pressed ‘a’, ‘b’, ‘c’, or ‘d’ the answer cannot be changed anymore
The questions will be shown on a screen
Teams will answer the questions under time pressure
