EFEITOS DAS CHUVAS DE METEOROS NA IONOSFERA TERRESTRE

Abstract

Este trabalho estuda a interação de chuvas de meteoros com a baixa ionosfera terrestre. A análise, utilizando a técnica de radiopropagação em VLF (freqüência muito baixa: de 10-30 kHz), abrange o período de 1966 a 1994. Esta técnica permite o estudo da interação dos meteoróides e a região situada entre 60 e 90 km de altura, cujo conhecimento é extremamente pobre. A análise de trajetos transequatoriais de sinais de VLF permite o monitoramento das principais chuvas de meteoros que ocorrem nos hemisférios Sul e Norte. Os resultados obtidos foram comparados com os detectados por radar meteórico para as chuvas mais significativas. O monitoramento de 28 anos de dados contínuos de sinais de VLF permitiu o estudo da variabilidade dos feixes associados às chuvas de meteoros, bem como a estimativa dos parâmetros físicos e químicos das partículas meteóricas e da região considerada.

Effects of meteor showers in the earth's ionosphere-This work studies the interaction of meteor showers with the low terrestrial ionosphere. The analysis uses the VLF (Very Low Frequency, 10-30 kHz) radiopropagation technique and covers the period from 1966 to 1994. This technique enables the study of meteoroid interaction with the region from 60 to 90 km height, of which there is very poor information. The analysis of transequatorial VLF signals allows the monitoring of the main meteor showers at southern and northern hemispheres. The obtained results were compared with those detected by meteoric radar, for the more significant showers. The 28 years of continuous data monitoring of VLF signals allowed the study of the variability of the streams associated to the meteor showers, as well as the estimation of the physical and chemical parameters of the meteoric particles and of the considered region.
