Many natural phenomena studied by geophysics are constantly in the media, yet many are unaware of this science. Despite the essential role of geophysical research and methods in certain human activities and the development of the geosciences, society at large is still unaware of the object of study, the methods used, and the results that can be obtained through geophysics. The aforementioned characteristics, combined with the fact that geophysics is a relatively new science in Brazil, emphasize the importance of disseminating and popularizing science in this field and in the geosciences in general.
The exhibition "What is Geophysics?" was created in 2006 by professors from the Federal University of Pará (UFPA) and later received contributions of exhibition materials from students and professors from other universities such as the University of Brasília (UnB), University of São Paulo (USP), and University of Campinas (Unicamp). The exhibition was created with the aim of disseminating knowledge about this science. The itinerant exhibition at the conference features permanent materials on display at the MCT (Museum of Science and Technology), as well as materials transported from participating universities to the conference venue every two years. Learn more about the "What is Geophysics?" exhibition in 2009, 2011, 2013, 2015, 2017, 2019.
